The Social Mentoring

The Social Mentoring program is a well-prepared mentoring program that assembles a closely matched group of individuals from the Nepali immigrant community. It provides opportunities to discuss employment, self-employment, and work-related issues, generating possible options/solutions to some of the challenges. It fosters professional relationships among Nepali diasporas who share professional expertise, experiences, and support, while enabling a group of less-experienced individuals planning to excel in similar fields to achieve their full potential.

The CHIPS coordinator receives interest from mentees, actively listens, and sympathetically understands their background. They identify their goals, expectations, and availability for mentoring, and draw conclusions on what can be reasonably framed as potential solutions. They then form a group of mentees with closely related objectives. The CHIPS coordinator works further to identify and manage a good-fit mentor. On several occasions, they ask community members for referrals and assistance in finding the right-fit mentor.

After satisfactory profile matching, regardless of the context and purpose, with the mentee at the center and reflective practice as the cornerstone, the social mentoring program is launched. The program starts with a manageable small group and incorporates robust content and sustainable, just-right accessories. Opportunities to learn from mistakes are fully utilized for continuous improvement, risk minimization, and the development of good and safe practices for future programs.
